Zepp Expands to Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan!

Music aficionados will be chuffed to know that Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) has decided to set up Zepp Hall Network concert halls outside of Japan! For the uninitiated, Zepp is a subsidiary of SME Japan which has set up numerous live houses all across Japan, which are commonly seen as great ways for bands to get closer to their fans due to the proximity of the stages in these halls to the audience! They are commonly free-standing as well, and many also sell drinks within the premises. You could liken them to the more familiar concept of jazz bars, except with more of a focus on music.

Zepp Hall Network currently manages six venues in Japan – Sapporo, Tokyo, DiverCity (in Odaiba), Nagoya, Namba (in Osaka) and Osaka Bayside – with two more on the way for Fukuoka (2018) and Yokohama (2020). The last two will be managed by Koei Tecmo Holdings. More interesting for our foreign readers however is that Zepp will be opening halls in Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan! Not to worry, backed by the Cool Japan fund, these new international branches will have the same sound quality as their Japanese counterparts!

The Singapore branch of Zepp will take the place of Mega Box Event Hall A on Level 3 of BIGBOX Singapore at 1 Venture Avenue in Jurong East, as a collaboration between Zepp Hall Network and Singapore-based Big Box Investment Pte. Ltd..  This building is located right next to Jurong East MRT Station and that’s not all, you could spend your whole day just in BIGBOX Singapore now with the music hall accompanying a hypermarket, restaurants, numerous other shops and a playground for the little ones!

This hall will be able to accommodate 2333 people and combined with the adjacent Event Hall B it would be able to accommodate 4032. It’s going to open with a bang, too, with the upcoming RADWIMPS concert on June 4! Time to snap up those two thousand tickets, RADWIMPS fans!

The Malaysia branch of Zepp will open in Kuala Lumpur, near the bustling Bukit Bintang City at No. 2 Jalan Hang Tuah 55100 Kuala Lumpur. It will be set up as part of the Entertainment Hub inside Bukit Bintang City Centre, and will be conveniently located near amenities such as hotels, a shopping mall, restaurants and other retail destinations. You would be able to reach this area easily by taking the train or monorail from Hang Tuah Station, too! This branch will accommodate 2500 people (standing) and will open at the end of 2020.

Last but not least, the Taiwan branch of Zepp will be in New Taipei City, Futuhsin, Hsinchuang District. Hsinchaung Futuhsin is a growing Taipei suburb which will be home to several upscale condominium towers and a brand new government headquarters, as well as the Taiwan Film Institute and a shopping center! Zepp New Taipei will be part of this new shopping center and will occupy a whopping four floors! Conveniently, it is just a 12 minute ride away from Taipei Station on the Taoyuan Airport MRT, and a 5 minute stroll away from Xinzhuang Fuduxin Station too! This branch will be able to accommodate 2200 people (standing) and will open in the April of 2020.

What does this hold for the future of Japanese acts coming to Asia? Time will tell!
