CharaExpo Showcase Interview: Tetsuya Naito Talks About His Feelings For His First IWGP Heavyweight Title

For the first time, New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Tetsuya Naito, will be having a showcase of matches in Singapore during this year’s CharaExpo, which is happening in the Singapore Expo on July the 9th and 10th. J-Network was at the second CharaExpo Showcase, and we managed to interview the champion himself.

Q: How does it feel to win the IWGP Heavyweight Title for the first time?

A: Since I was 15, it has been my dream to get the belt, and getting the belt feels like my dream has been accomplished, but I won’t stop here. I will not end it here.

Q: Will you be recruiting any new members from NJPW into your group, Los Ingobernables de Japon and if so who will you be recruiting?

A:  As of right now, there are 4 members, but in the future, there may be changes. There might be more people, there might be less people, so I would like to leave it to your own imagination, and to look forward to what happens in the future.

Q: Are there any wrestlers that inspired you?

A: Up till now, I have always looked up to Hiroshi Tanahashi, and he has always, been in my mind, to be someone stronger and better than me.

Q: What is your favorite Singaporean dish?

A: I have not tried many of the Singaporean food; I have only been to the Merlion and Marina Bay Sands, so I don’t really have one.

These matches will serve as a build-up towards Naito’s first title defense against Okada at Dominion 6.19 at Osaka-Jo Hall.
