For readers desiring more information about Touken Ranbu, it is a free-to-play online game developed by DMM and Nitroplus on January 2015. In this game, players assume the role of a sage, or Saniwa (審神者), who travels back into the past to defeat evil forces that are attempting to change the course of history by using attractive sword men, known as Touken Danshi, which are based on historical swords in Japan. The game became popular, with over 500,000 users, and with the release of its mobile application version, Touken Ranbu POCKET, on March 1, the app has reached over 1 million downloads as of March 16. It is one of the most popular games on DMM, similar to Kantai Collection, another DMM online game which features young anime girls based on historical battleships which fought in World War II.
We are looking forward to see what this animated series will bring us! With historical swords being personified as hot young men, the animation will definitely attract many female fans to appreciate the beauty and the history of the swords.
