Four championship matches to look forward to at Invasion Attack 2016

As we approach Invasion Attack 2016 on 10th April, let’s take an in-depth look at the four championship matches that will take place in this prestigious event:

  1. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship

Matt Sydal & Ricochet (c) vs Roppongi Vice

M1

Matt Sydal & Ricochet will defend their title for the first time against Roppongi Vice. They have claimed their first ever reign at “The New Beginning in Osaka” on February 11th this year and will be looking forward to extend their reign.

Another interesting fact is that the last time Roppongi Vice reclaimed their Jr. Tag Team glory was back at last year’s Invasion Attack! Could they do the same this year too?

  1. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship

Kushida (c) vs Will Osperay

M2

This match is one anticipated by many: a future legend in Jr. Heavyweight division, the 3-time reigning champion Kushida, facing the new breed, Will Osperay. The former Lucha Brittania World Champion was introduced as the newest member of one of the most dominant stable in NJPW, “CHAOS”.

Kushida, however, has held the title for a combined 233 days, the 11th longest running combined reign in NJPW’s history. And for the first time ever, this championship will be defended in Invasion Attack.

  1. IWGP Tag Team Championship

G.B.H (Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma) (c) vs Tama Tonga & Tanga Roa

M3

The defending champions were on the streak of domination after managing to successfully retain the tag team titles for 74 days. The 2015 World Tag League winners will be looking forward to extending their reign and exerting their dominance further at Invasion Attack.

Another interesting factor is that the newest member of the Bullet Club, Tanga Roa, will be teaming up with his brother Tama Tonga to form “Guerrillas of Destiny”. How will they fare against the 2015 World Tag League winners? Only one way to find out.

  1. IWGP Heavyweight Championship

Kazuchika Okada (c) vs Tetsuya Naito

M4

The main event for this year’s Invasion Attack is possibly the most anticipated ones by the fans. “Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada is in hot form, defending his 3rd title reign for over 250 days, since regaining it from AJ Styles at last year’s The New Beginning in Osaka. After beating Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 10, Okada will look into creating a new chapter into his record books.

Speaking of record books, that will the main motive for the challenger, Tetsuya Naito. The 2016 New Japan Cup winner will be looking forward to winning the IWGP Heavyweight Championship for the first time in his career. With a stunning victory against Hirooki Goto in the New Japan Cup 2016 Final, his chances are there.

Invasion Attack 2016 will be held at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo on 10th April 2016. Watch it live and exclusive on the NJPW World here!
