Fans of the hit sports anime Haikyuu!! (ハイキュー!!) would be delighted to know that a third season has been given the green light for airing this fall, seemingly in October 2016. The anime is based off Haruichi Furudate’s (古舘春一) Haikyuu!! volleyball manga and its second season is currently still airing in Japan. It’s first season premiered in April 6 2014 and ended on 21st September 2014 in Japan and was serialised by Sentai Filmworks for digital release in North America.
The story features Shouyou Hinata and his love for the sport Volleyball and his adventures together with the Karasuno High school Volleyball club. The first season had a total of 25 episodes and the second season is said to also end at 25 episodes and will end on 26 March 2016. All episodes were produced by Production I.G, which will also be the producer of the third season.
As of February 2012, the manga serialisation has been published in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, the same magazine that the Naruto Manga was published in. The series is getting increasingly popular, having sold over 12 million volumes of the manga since December 2015. The anime also features well known seiyuu such as Murase Ayumu (as Hinata in Haikyuu!) who has voice acted in popular anime series such as Sword Art Online and will be lending his voice to Allen Walker as part of the D.Gray Man reboot. Ishikawa Kaito (as Kageyama in Haikyuu!), has made appearances in other hit series like One Punch Man and Owari No Seraph.
This anime is one to look out for, not just for Haikyuu! fans, but also for sports anime fans alike. The second season of the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll together with English Subtitles.
