Those who are into Japan’s kawaii culture would definitely be familiar with the name Rilakkuma – the adorable brown bear who has stolen the hearts of many fans alongside his friends Korilakkuma and Kiiroitori. Fans will be delighted to know that a Rilakkuma themed cafe will soon be opening up in Tokyo, Harajuku alongside a special surprise!
As highlighted in a video released in November 2015, a new character was introduced in the Rilakkuma franchise. The new character, introduced as Korillakuma’s new friend, is Koguma-chan, another bear whose fur is in a darker shade of brown than Rilakkuma’s and is said to be obsessed with honey.
To commemorate the introdction of this new character, San-X will be opening a pop-up Rilakkuma-themed cafe in Harajuku this spring! From 4 March to 10 April 2016, fans will be able to dine with an assortment of Rilakkuma themed treats and decorations – all centred on the theme of Hachitsu no Mori or Honey Forest. These dishes include Eggs Benedict and green curry! For those with a sweet tooth, tempting desserts like chocolate mousse, parfaits and pancakes will also be available – all shaped in the likeness of the adorable characters! However, dining is by reservation only.
As a memento of your kawaii dining experience, you can also purchase exclusive Rilakkuma goods at the cafe itself ranging from cups to plates. With the hanami season coinciding with the opening of this adorable themed cafe, spring is undoubtedly the season to travel in now!
