In 2013, Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon celebrated its 20th anniversary with a wide array of special celebrations and tie-ups ranging from a new anime adaptation of the beloved shojo manga known as Sailor Moon Crystal to a slew of exclusive merchandise from Premium Bandai. This year, it seems to be the year of everyone’s favourite Clow Card collector, Kinomoto Sakura as the manga Cardcaptor Sakura steps into its 20th anniversary this year!
Just yesterday, Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine had announced that the beloved manga series from CLAMP is set to have a new project to be released in tandem with the series’ 20th anniversary.
While not much has been announced with regards to the project, fans in Japan can expect to relive their childhood memories with a re-run of the Clow Card arc of the anime adaptation, only on NHK’s BS Premium channel! The re-run will commence on 6 April 2016 although the time slot it is expected to occupy has yet to be confirmed.
Will the 20th anniversary of Cardcaptor Sakura be celebrated on a grand scale akin to Sailor Moon’s and Digimon’s? Only time will tell. As one of the most renowned magical girl series of all time, it definitely deserves a grand celebration!
