Kohaku Uta Gassen 2015 Line-Up To Feature New Artistes; Love Livers and Nogizaka46 Fans Rejoice!

Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai’s – more affectionately known as NHK – iconic New Year’s Countdown programme, Kohaku Uta Gassen is set to feature a refreshing line-up with 10 new artistes alongside beloved old timers!

The 66th edition of Kohaku will see the return of hit artistes like Perfume, AKB48, EXILE, Arashi and X Japan, to name a few. Among the ten new artistes include well-known female group, Superfly and solo artist Sakurako Ohara who is entering this prestigious programme at the tender age of 19 over on the red team (akagumi).

Bands such as BUMP OF CHICKEN will also be making their long-awaited debut along with unique groups such as Gesu no Kiwami Otome. Solo artistes on the white team (shirogumi) include Gen Hoshino, Keisuke Yamauchi and Hiroshi Miyama.

The most striking additions to the stellar line-up for 2016, is undoubtedly the addition of μ’s from the sensational anime series, Love Live! School Idol Project and that of Nogizaka46. As the two groups managed to top the charts with their albums and singles in the previous years, their debut on Kohaku prior to this announcement was certainly highly anticipated! For the voice actors of the μ’s girls however, this has given them the honour of becoming the second seiyuu act after Nana Mizuki to perform in Kohaku’s 65 years of broadcasting!

This year’s line-up however does not feature some regulars or iconic artistes who have performed in the previous years. Nana Mizuki, Momoiro Clover Z, HKT48, Pornograffiti, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, SKE48, Chris Hart, Kaori Kozai and Kouhei Fukuda will not be present in this year’s line-up. Nonetheless, it is heartening to see Anisong becoming more recognised in the Japanese music industry.

The 66th edition of Kohaku Uta Gassen will air on NHK on 31st December 2015, 19:15, Japan Standard Time.
