The Yu-Gi-Oh! trading-card-game (TCG) and anime multimedia franchise still stands strong as one of the top-three best-selling TCGs worldwide over its decade-and-a-half, and many will remember with fondness the signature cards of each anime season’s protagonists and their archetypes. One iconic card remembered for a slightly different reason is the Dark Magician Girl, the younger, cutesy-fied female counterpart of Duel Monsters protagonist Yugi Muto’s ace card, Dark Magician.
Many argue that Dark Magician Girl’s stats and effect are rather lackluster in both the anime and in the physical TCG and requires other copies of the Dark Magician family of monsters to have already been destroyed earlier on. Nevertheless, its somewhat cute and sexy artwork that has been seconded by parodies and fanart online has caused some to conclude that this girl instead possibly serves more as a sex symbol of the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise.
Now, figurine maker Kotobukiya allows you to bring sexy back for an MSRP of 4800 yen come November 2015. A Dark Magician girl will be released as part of the accessorizable Cu-poche Extra figurine line. There will be 3 customizable face plates for different facial expressions and equipment such as the cylinders in the Magic Cylinder Trap Card, cane and magic spellbook.
In conjunction to the above, Kotobukiya will also release figurines for the Apple and Lemon Magicians, two other characters who have been revealed to appear in the upcoming 2016 feature film Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions, the sequel to the original 2000-2004 Duel Monsters anime. Bearing fruit-based names, these cards may or may not be related to the Dark Magician archetype which also share the Magician title in their names in the anime and in-game contexts.
With the date to the tabletop nostalgia-phile’s much-awaited sequel drawing near, these figurines may very well make collectors’ wait for the feature film’s wait less dry. Interested buyers may pre-order the Dark Magician Girl Figurine at various sites such as Hobby Search.
