‘Legend of the Galactic Heroes’ New Anime Adaptation to Arrive in 2017

From the sci-fi novel series ‘Legend of the Galactic Heroes’ (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu) written by Tanaka Yoshiki back in 1982, is to come the a sudden revival of this space epic which continues to fascinate the hearts of the novels’ fans even after twenty seven years.

When the first volume was released in 1982, it became an instant bestseller, spawning two anime films and two anime series which rack up to a total of 162 episodes, numerous video game adaptations, a manga adaptation which is still ongoing to this date, and even a musical.

According to the official website for the anime adaptation, Production I.G of ‘PSYCHO PASS’ fame will be leading studio for the production, which is planned to be released in 2017.

The same website also holds Tanaka’s comments about this new adaptation:

“After twenty seven years, it became such that everyone can once again encounter the impolite thought of ‘wow, there really are strange people like that’.

When I think about it, I really feel that this is a blessing. What the original novel, the comics, the old anime series could not do, please do that [for this new adaptation]. It really is a thought that rejuvenates me with gratefulness and excitement.”
