“Love Live! The School Idol Movie” And Accompanying Singles Make It Big Again

Fans of the highly popular Love Live! School Idol Project series will be thrilled to learn that the recent “Love Live! The School Idol Movie” released just last month has remained on the top of Japan’s box office in its first three weeks of release, grossing a total of 1.65 billion yen or USD 13.4 million within thirty days of its premiere. μ’s’ Best Album Best Live Collection II was also certified Gold last month by the Recording Industry Association of Japan, adding yet another accolade to the already larger-than-life idol series’ works.

And that’s not all; two of the CD singles released to correspond with the commercially well-received movie have managed to edge their way into the top 5 positions of the Oricon Charts! “SUNNY DAY SONG / ?←Heartbeat” is the second amongst a series of three singles released each week showcasing selected songs from the movie, and occupied the #2 spot on the Oricon singles ranking last week. The single has also topped records for being the single selling the most copies in its inaugural week of release, selling over 86,000 copies last week alone.

The previous single, Angelic Angel, was released on 1st July and sold 17,000 copies in its second week to give it a grand total of nearly 100,000 copies. The first single in the weekly releases peaked at #2 last week before stabilizing at #5 this week, maintaining its grip in the Oricon Top 10. The third and latest single just debuted today, landing on the #2 position like its predecessors on its first day of release!

Both singles feature songs by the well-loved nine-girl idol group in the anime series, split into three-subunit groups containing three members. The songs featured in the three singles are:

Released 1 July: 1. Angelic Angel (title song), and 2. Hello, Hoshi o Kazoete (Hello, Count the Stars)
Released 8 July: 1. SUNNY DAY SONG (title song), and 2. ?←Heartbeat
Released 15 July: 1. Boku-tachi wa Hitotsu no Hikari (We Are A Single Light) and 2. Future style

The School Idol Movie” which will be screened in Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, and Indonesia, alongside premiering in select cities in the United States on the 12th of September this year.
