Fans who have read our recent article on the leaked footage of Ryu and Roy in Super Smash Brothers for Wii U and 3DS will be thrilled to learn that Nintendo has officially confirmed both of them as downloadable content (DLC) characters, together with a third recurring character! The third to be introduced is Lucas from the Japan-only Mother 3 game. Lucas‘ previous appearance was in Super Smash Brothers Brawl. This brings our cast to a grand total of 52, the highest so far for a Super Smash Brothers game.
Aside from these three new additions to the cast, players can expect to see more! Super Smash Brothers for Wii U and 3DS (affectionately shorthanded as “SSB4” or “Smash 4” by fans) has introduced the Mii Fighter as a new customizable and playable character with three forms – the Mii Brawler, Mii Gunner and Mii Swordfighter. New costumes from some of our favourite classic game series such as Virtua Fighter, Tekken, MegaMan, Splatoon and Animal Crossing will be available for purchase and download to enhance the appearance of our Mii Fighters too!
The Dreamland stage, named after the setting of the Kirby series and which first appeared as a playable stage in the inaugural installation for the Nintendo 64 console, will also be re-appearing as DLC for the Wii U and 3DS.
Besides these above updates, Nintendo has also announced that all characters in the cast, including the more recent new additions Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy and Ryu will be getting their own amiibo figures too. For the uninitiated, an amiibo is a new wireless communications and storage system introduced by Nintendo for the Wii U and 3DS where players’ data can be stored within collectible figurines of their favourite characters and these cute and realistic figurines can add additional functionality and further enhance the player’s gameplay experience.
Players who are looking to obtain the whole set of DLC may purchase it for $29.16 for both game versions.
