Yowamushi Pedal Seiyuu to “Pedal” It Out in Their Own Race

Sports anime seems to be all the rage these past few years. With titles such as Kuroku no Basket, Free! and Yowamushi Pedal garnering intense popularity, especially throughout a fujoshi audience, it is unsurprising that the cast members of these sports anime would engage themselves in fan events to interact with their growing fanbase and in some cases, to make the events in the anime a reality.

Enter Yowamushi Pedal, an immensely popular anime centred around cycling. While the seiyuu from Free! Eternal Summer had a mock swimming event during their event in Ryogoku Kokugikan, the seiyuu from this series will engage in a race. They will be split into two teams as per the anime and will be sorted into the teams that the characters they played races in. The race will be aired on the J-Sports Channel in June and August.

Participating in this race are Hiroyuki Yoshino and Tsubasa Yonaga representing Team Hakone. Daiki Yamashita, Showtaro Morikubo and Kentaro Ito will be racing under Team Sohoku. Hirofumi Nojima will be the only one representing the Fushimi Alliance.

Each of these seiyuu will be racing on their own bicycles to Shizuoka Prefecture’s Cycle Sports Centre and will compete under the respective teams. In a twist, the race will include the same rules that are used in the anime. Will the seiyuu apply the same strategies and tricks that their own characters used?

Aside from the main race between the voice actors, the programme will also feature highlights from two major cycling events in Europe: Tour de France  in June and Vuelta a Espana in Spain this August.

With such a unique concept to the growing sports anime scene, this is definitely one event for fans of Yowamushi Pedal to look out for!
