An update on the official Sailor Moon Japanese site has revealed the characters who will be appearing in the upcoming Un Nouveau Voyage (lit. A New Journey) musical which will be performed at the AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo from 18th to 27th September and then at Osaka Sankei Hall Breeze from 2nd October to 4th October.
This Sailor Moon Musical (abbreviated as Sera Myu) will be based on the Infinity arc of the manga, and thus, its corresponding villains Death Busters, Mistress 9, Kaolinite, Prof. Tomoe and the Witches 5 will appear on stage. On the heroes’ side, the Outer Senshi, Sailors Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto will make their debut. Th full cast list will be revealed on 3rd June.
Un Nouveau Voyage is the third musical to be performed as part of the current Sailor Moon revival season. In the west, these 3 musicals are commonly referred to as the Fifth Stage, as the current stage actress for the titular Sailor Moon, Satomi Okubo, is the fifth to portray her.
This musical will be the final performance for the actresses portraying the Inner Senshi: Satomi Okubo (Sailor Moon), Momoyo Koyama (Sailor Mercury), Shiori Sakata (Sailor Venus), Kanon Nanaki (Sailor Mars) adn Yu Takahashi (Sailor Jupiter). It is stated that Tuxedo Kamen‘s actress, Yuuga Yamamoto, will be reprising her role in future musicals, ascertaining that the musical franchise is extremely likely to continue past the third production.
The change of the actress portraying Sailor Moon will start a new unofficial 6th Stage by the fans’ dividing of the musicals, and may signify a change in the storyline style of the musical as per changes in the 90s-2000s musicals. For instance, when Anza Ooyama portrayed Sailor Moon in the First Stage, the villains tend to be drawn directly from the anime and manga, whereas the Stages in which Fumina Hara and Miyuki Kanbe starred revolved heavily around custom arch-nemeses such as Dark Plasman and Dracul and their individual story arcs.
Thus far, 4 other original musicals from the previous Stages have been made on the storyline and characters of the Infinity arc.
In addition, the staff, acknowledging the strong influx of applications for the Musical’s monthly e-zine from 1st May, will begin offering pre-sale tickets to its subscribers starting 21st May. The general release of the tickets for non-subscribers begins at 26th July.
