NJPW Invasion Attack 2015: AJ Styles remains IWGP World Heavyweight Champion

It was time for one of the biggest professional wrestling pay-per-views (PPV) of the year in Japan: NJPW’s Invasion Attack, for the 3rd time since 2013. The event took place on 5th April 2015 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, featuring a total of 9 matches, with 4 of them with championships on the line.

AJ Styles and Kota Ibushi before the match for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship

Over 9,000 spectators witnessed the huge main event with AJ Styles having to defend the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against the No. 1 Contender, Kota Ibushi. The distraction by fellow Bullet Club member, Kenny Omega, gave an opening for AJ Styles to deliver the Styles Clash, his signature move, to retain the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. It was a hard-fought battle between the two, as the match lasted over 25 minutes.

Despite Bullet Club’s reigning dominance in NJPW, they failed to gain the IWGP Tag Team Championship after being defeated by the defending champions, The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Michael Bennett).

However, the Bullet Club managed to get back, as Kenny Omega managed to retain his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship after defeating Mascara Dorada, in a match that lasted 13 minutes.

Two new champions were crowned during the event, and both of them are from the tag-team division. Roppongi Vice (Baretta & Rocky Romero) became the new IWGP Junior Tag Team Champions after defeating The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson).
