Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG adds the Ultimate Duelist Series format to its Organised Play

The official website of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG has unveiled a new format, the Ultimate Duelist Series (UDS) for competitive players (referred as duelists in-franchise) of the TCG.

Under this new scheme, duelists with a pre-existing COSSY account can earn UDS points by participating at UDS Qualifiers held in Official Tournament Stores (OTS), specifically-organised Public Event UDS Qualifiers and selected sanctioned events (eg. Regionals, YCS, and OTS Championships). Being a judge during events at certain levels of events also grants UDS points.

These points, valid for two years to allow newcomers to Yu-Gi-Oh! accumulating points from scratch to stand a fair chance against more adept players and can also be spent to gain entry to the twice-a-year Ultimate Duelist Invitational once the Duelist accumulates the minimum required amount. The first, the Summer Season, will begin with the UDS Qualifiers held from May to July 2015, and its Invitational will be held in August 2015. The second, the Winter Season, will begin with the UDS Qualifiers held from October 2015 to January 2016, and its Invitational will be held in February 2016.

The UDS Invitational will be held across two days and the champion will be crowned the Ultimate Duelist. He will then be brought to the next Invitational to defend his or her title.

The prizes awarded to Invitational attendees tend to be accessory-like, featuring lanyards, belts, pins and medals, and less of giving cards or gaming accessories to be used in-game.

Players may read more about this format, as well as the breakdown of points earned at different kinds of Yu-Gi-Oh! events and prize support in a question-and-answer-format article at the official Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG website.
